Volunteer Hospice nurses guide patients and their support group through the end-of-life journey. Our on-call nurses are available 24 hours a day to answer questions or make visits, while our nursing staff works with patients and their families to set goals and manage symptoms throughout the hospice service. Our goal is to provide comfort through pain management, offer support and compassionate care, and help maintain patients’ dignity and self-determination.
Available to Volunteer Hospice patients and their families, respite care offers short-term relief to caregivers, providing time attend to tasks such as shopping, doctor’s appointments, lunch with friends, or relaxation. Respite volunteers do not provide nursing care, but their gentle support makes caregivers’ work more sustainable.
Volunteer Hospice offers free grief and bereavement support to patients, their families, and community members, including:
• Anticipatory grief for Volunteer Hospice patients, their families, and caregivers.
• One-on-one bereavement support for anyone in the community.
• Grief support groups for anyone in the community.
• Empower Yourself Workshops: A Practical Guide. Open to anyone in the community who will be living alone soon or has experienced the loss of a partner or spouse.
Open to all in the community and beyond, Volunteer Hospice is launching educational and awareness-raising events to demystify hospice and end of life. The Speaker Series features expert speakers every other month on the topics of death and dying. The monthly Death Cafes allow for informal discussions while providing community support to individuals and normalizing conversations around death and dying.
An online Hospice Volunteer Training Series is offered to train those interested in serving as a Volunteer Hospice volunteer as well as those who would like to learn more about hospice care or Volunteer Hospice.
Medical equipment is delivered to Volunteer Hospice patients. Our Lending Closet is also open to all community members at no charge. Medical equipment is available for pick up at our Port Angeles location, depending on our inventory. We accept donations of medical equipment in good working condition.
